Simon Commission

In November 1927 , a seven member statutory commission under the chairmanship of Sir John Simon was constituted by the British Government for further constitutional reforms in India. Another important member Clement Attlee. Since the members of commission were all English people, the appointment of commission angered Indians.  Simon  Commission had visited India during the time of Viceroy Lord Irwin. When the Commission landed at Bombay in 3rd February 1928 , all the major cities and towns observed a complete hartal and raised the slogan ‘‘Simon Go back’’. Lala Lajpat Rai seriously wounded and died related to anti-Simon struggles. The indians appointed a committee headed by Motilal Nehru to prepare the principles of a constitution for India . The committee prepared a draft constitution and submitted its report on August 1928.
