Maharashtra was the first state to introduce the institution of Lokayukta

- Kerala Lokayukta Act passed in 1999
- The Lokayukta is appointed by the Governor on advice of Chief Minister.
- Submit resignation to Governor
- Person appointed as Lokayukta should be Former Supreme court Judge or Former High Court Chief Justice.
