Degrees of comparison | English


Positive degree : When we speak about only one person or thing.
He is a tall student.


Comparative degree : When we compare two persons or two things with each other.
He is taller than Rahul.


Superlative Degree : When we compare more than two persons or things with one another.We use the article 'the' before the superlative degrees.
He is the tallest student in this class.


Adjectives usually form their comparative and superlative degrees  by addition of '-er' and '-est' to the positive degree

The clock represents two things- minutes and hour. The smaller one is hour hand . The larger one is minute hand. The minute hand makes one complete rotation (360°) in 60 minute . The angle traced by minute hand in 1 min = 360/60= 6° The hour hand makes one complete rotation (360°) in 12 hours.
