Profit & Loss | Maths


  • Cost Price (CP)  : The price at which an article is purchased
  • Selling price (SP) : The price at which an article is sold
  • Profit (Gain) : When SP > CP
  • Loss: When CP > SP
  • Profit = SP - CP
  • Loss = CP - SP
  • Profit%=(Profit/CP) x 100
  • Loss%=(Loss/CP) x 100
  • Discount = MP - SP
  • The discount percent is calculated on the marked price.
    Discount percent =(Discount/Marked price)x 100
  • If there are two successive profits of x% and y% in a transaction then the resultant profit percent is
    x + y + (xy/100)
  • If there is a profit of x% and loss of y% in a transaction, then the resultant profit or loss
    percent is
    x - y - (xy/100)
    according to the (+)ve and
    the (-)ve signs respectively.
  • If cost price of x articles is equal to the selling price of y articles, then profit percent.
