Revolt of 1857 | Indian history

The rebellion began on 10 May 1857 against the rule of the British East India Company.
Started in Meerut (Uttarpradesh).
The immediate cause was the new gunpowder cartridges for the Enfield rifle( cartridges lubricated with the fat of cows and pigs, a practice offensive to Hindus and Muslims)
British called it as the Sepoy Mutiny (ശിപായി ലഹള) , devil’s wind.
Mangal Pandey started the Sepoy Mutiny in India .
Mangal Pandey was first martyr (രക്തസാക്ഷി) of the revolt.
