Non Co-operation Movement

Started by Mahatma Gandhi with a view to support the Khilafat Movement

Formally launched on 1 August 1920

It aimed to resist British rule in India through nonviolent means,"satyagraha"

It included boycott of foreign goods , nationalization of education , Swadeshi, Hindu Muslim unity

The non-cooperation movement was withdrawn because of the Chauri Chaura incident

On 5th February 1922, in the Chauri Chaura(UP), after violent clashes between the local police and the protesters in which three protesters were killed by police firing, the police station was set on fire by the mob, killing 22 of the policemen.

On March 1922, Gandhi was imprisoned for six years
