• Indian constitution adopted the institution of speaker from Britain
• Presiding officer (chairman) of the Lok Sabha who is elected from among its members.
• Decides whether a bill is a money bill or not. The decision of Speaker is final.
• Joint Session of the two houses is presided by the Speaker
• The Speaker should give his resignation letter to Deputy Speaker
• Has no right to vote in the house but can caste a vote if there is a tie in passing a bill etc
• He is not answerable to anyone except the House
