Active and passive voice | English


  • Active voice - Subject + verb + object
  • Passive voice - object + be + PPV + by subject
  • Tense of both AV and PV are same

  • Simple present (AV) - is /am/are +PPV (PV)
  • She draws a picture - A picture is drawn by her

  • Present continuous(AV) - is /am/are + being +PPV (PV)
  • She is drawing a picture - A picture is being drawn by her

  • Present perfect(AV) -has/have + been +PPV (PV)
  • She has drawn a picture - A picture has been drawn by her

  • Simple past (AV) -was/were +PPV (PV)
  • She drew a picture - A picture was drawn by her

  • Past continuous (AV) -was/were + being +PPV (PV)
  • She was drawing a picture - A picture was being drawn by her

  • Past perfect(AV) -had + been +PPV (PV)
  • She had drawn a picture - A picture had been drawn by her

  • Simple future (AV) -will/shall + be +PPV (PV)
  • She will draw a picture - A picture will be drawn by her

  • Future perfect(AV) -will/shall + have + been +PPV (PV)
  • She will have drawn a picture - A picture will have been drawn by her

  • Only 8 tense forms have passive voice
