Preamble

The preamble is based on the Objectives which was drafted and moved in the Constituent Assembly by Jawaharlal Nehru on 13 December 1946 . Adopted by the constitution on 26th November 1949.
The preamble is the most precious part of the constitution.
It is the heart and soul of constitution.
The idea of preamble is taken from US constitution.
The term 'WE' in the preamble means Indian people
Originally preamble described the state as a "sovereign democratic republic"
The word "Secular" and "Socialist” were later added by the 42nd Amendment
Thus preamble declares India as "sovereign socialist secular democratic republic”
The preamble has been amended only once
According to the Preamble the four objectives of the constitution are Equality, Justice, Fraternity and Liberty.

N.A. Palkhivala describes preamble as the 'Identity Card of the Constitution'
K M Munshi called preamble as the ‘Political Horoscope of Indian Constitution’
